“Within a few years after leaving school, I decided that it was time that I started a career and that came in the form of the Royal Marines. I enjoyed varied service including working within Trauma Risk Management (TRiM), the military’s ‘early warning system’ to signpost potential suffers of mental illness. My 15 year career really did fly by and included 4 Operational Tours in Afghanistan and Africa. People often ask me why the transition from Royal Marine to hypnotherapist? I quite simply tell them that although I absolutely loved the military, it was always the people and their working relationships that interested me more than the job itself.
However my journey to becoming a practicing hypnotherapist did quite start there. Previously I studied psychology at The Open University including psychoanalysis, evolutionary and positive psychology but it wasn’t until after I attended CPHT, that I truly understood the full picture in terms of the mind and its effect on creating lasting, positive, therapeutic change.
CPHT, in my view, upholds excellence within the field of hypnotherapy and I enjoy immensely teaching others in finding their way to becoming a confident, empowered hypnotherapist.”
Sophie Douglas is a graduate of Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT). She trained and qualified as a hypnotherapist and psychotherapist and is now a Senior Course Lecturer at CPHT Edinburgh. She is also the Practice Manager at her own hypnotherapy practice in the Scottish Borders, Sophie Douglas Hypnotherapy.
Sophie is recognised with the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and also the National Board for Modern Psychotherapists (NBfMP).
During her time at school, Sophie enjoyed volunteering as a Community Sexual Health Adviser. She listened to and advised young people, from 14-21 years old, in difficult situations. Sophie feels this experience is when her skills for working with people developed and her love for helping and encouraging individuals grew. She was rewarded for her extensive hours of voluntary work with various awards from the community, namely The Bruce Trophy, Young Citizenship of the year and the South of Scotland Inspire Award.
After completing and successfully passing all her Higher exams at school she continued her education and gained a Diploma in Counselling and a Diploma in Psychology at ICS Open College. It was whilst studying for these diplomas that Sophie realised that her interests lay in the more specific therapy of hypnotherapy.
On realising the huge benefits hypnotherapy has on individuals, Sophie found CPHT Edinburgh to be the training course that best fitted her needs.
